Bookshelf dedications

A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty,
because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves
and staying up late reading them.
~Lemony Snicket

Th' first thing to have in a libry is a shelf.
Fr'm time to time this can be decorated with lithrachure.
But th' shelf is th' main thing.
~Finley Peter Dunne

The library is not a shrine for the worship of books. It is not a temple where literary incense must be burned or where one's devotion to the bound book is expressed in ritual. A library, to modify the famous metaphor of Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas - a place where history comes to life.
~Norman Cousins

As part of our capital campaign, you can help the library by dedicating a bookshelf to someone you love and/or admire. For $50, a name plate will be engraved and placed on a bookshelf in the area of your choice, and a notification slip sent to the recipient, if you wish (please include their address). Checks should be made to JTEL. Donations to the library are tax deductible, as the JTEL is a 501(c)(3) public charity. (We are currently in the process of registering with the State of Alaska Department of Law's charity database, and should show up there soon.)

Friends of the Ester library recently obtained 16 bookcases (16 shelves each!), obtaining them for the low, low price of $50 each (new cases would have cost around $800 each, so we saved $12,000!). This means that each bookplate dedicated can help buy the materials needed to build the building to house the bookcases in! Please help us reach our goal of raising enough money to begin construction in 2012, and honor those you care about. We have 232 shelves left to dedicate!
