A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, Th' first thing to have in a libry is a shelf. The library is not a shrine for the worship of books. It is not a temple where literary incense must be burned or where one's devotion to the bound book is expressed in ritual. A library, to modify the famous metaphor of Socrates, should be the delivery room for the birth of ideas - a place where history comes to life. As part of our capital campaign, you can help the library by dedicating a bookshelf to someone you love and/or admire. For a donation of $50, a name plate will be engraved and placed on a bookshelf in the area of your choice. Shelves have been dedicated so far for: $50 each Chris Barefoot (Alaska geography or river travel) April Evalyn Crosby (philosophy) Louis Thomas Day (woodworking) Fá Ir (Islamic studies) Rebecca Finner (science fiction) Merritt Helfferich & April Crosby (any section) Merritt Randolph Helfferich (Alaska nonfiction) Caghin Micah McCoy (any section) in memory of Alice Virginia Merritt (literature) Hans Mölders (German language or history) Musical Rumors the Musick family (Alaska) Music Mart & Studios (music) Amber Musselman (biology or wildlife biology) Barack Obama (any section) Carly Rose Patton (any section) Megan Phillips (children's) Mike & Margaret Simmons (the smart one) Nancy Smoyer (history or nonfiction) Alpha O.
