Magnetic poetry and a fun run in Ester This fun 5-kilometer footrace and poetry composition contest takes place in early October. The race starts and ends at the library gazebo, looping through west Ester and the Tailings in three circuits. After each of the first two circuits, runners stop, grab a handful of magnetic poetry, and compose a poem. Contestants are judged on times and literary compositions made using magnetic poetry sets, with extra credit for costumes. The first race was held in 2008, and was brought back by popular demand. "Officially, the race is a fundraiser for the John Trigg Ester Library. Unofficially, it's a hoot." Results for the 2009 race are here. To read about the 2008 race and view the results, go here. Race rules are explained in full at check in on the day of the event. Fees are listed on the entry form. Each race requires the help of numerous volunteers and sponsors, as well as venues where participants can pick up and drop off entry forms. To sponsor the race, please contact the librarians at library@esterrepublic.com. To volunteer, please call Ed Rouleau, race organizer and founder, at 458-9550. | |||||||
