Readers on the Run 2009

Magnetic poetry and a fun run in Ester

The 2009 contest took place October 10, Saturday morning. The race was modified slightly from the previous year: runners had their choice to compose magnetic poetry, after either of the first two circuits (rather than after each one). At the end of the run, participants attempted to pitch up to four balls into a bucket, reducing their time by 15 seconds for each ball that made the target. The Boy Scouts Troop 92 and Troop Leader Jeff Rogers added this new wrinkle to the event. Tim Mowry and John Wagner of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner showed up to report on the event.

The 2009 t-shirt designer was Inari Kylänen. Nomadic Stars provided nontoxic, eco-friendly printing on the t-shirts (we still have some, in various colors and styles: longsleeved ($20), shortsleeved, and tank tops (the latter two are $15 ea.), in men's, women's, and children's sizes and styles. All t-shirts are recycled!

Last year's results are here.

Thanks to Beaver Sports, the Ester post office, the Golden Eagle Saloon, Goldstream Sports, Gulliver's Books, and Toy Quest for providing drop-off points for the race registration forms. Thanks again to Toy Quest for providing numbers for the race (we still had enough left over from last year!).

Volunteers Amy Cameron (who brought hot coffee), Deirdre Helfferich, Hans Mölders, Jeff Rogers, Stanley Rogers, Ed Rouleau, Jenny Schlofeldt, Trey Simmons, and Joe Taylor made the race go smoothly. Thanks for your help!
